Flow Cytometry Core

A state-of-the-art facility within the Cawley Center

The Flow Cytometry Core Facility located within the Cawley Center for Translational Cancer Research (CCTCR) at Christiana Care was established in 2010 under the direction of Dr. Lynn Opdenaker, PhD.  It currently houses a BD FACS Aria II Cell Sorter with an automated cell deposition unit (ACDU).  It can analyze up to 10 different fluorphores and sort up to 4 different populations at once.  The ACDU allows sorting of cells directly into tissue culture plates or microscope slides.  In addition, the core facility has a BD LSR Fortessa with 4 lasers.  Having 16 detectors on the Fortessa allows for increased options for fluorophore use or sample profiling.  This instrument is also equipped with an HDMI unit for high throughput analysis. More recently, the Core Facility acquired a BD FACS Melody, a cell sorter that provides a more user-friendly and streamlined process.  The 3 lasers on the Melody allow for analysis of 8 different fluorophores.  Like the Aria, the Melody can sort cells into either plates or tubes.

This state of the art flow cytometry core facility is housed with the CTCR, which is a fully functioning research laboratory.  If necessary, users of the core facility can have access to any number of tissue culture hood, incubators, microscopes, a plate reader and imaging equipment upon request. For more information, contact LOpdenaker@christianacare.org.
