Support for Adolescents and Young Adults (AYA ages 13-39)

ChristianaCare is committed to provide the best care for our young adult patients to ensure you and your loved ones have support you need every step of the way.

We help those who are:

  • new patients
  • already established patients
  • patients transitioning from pediatric care to adult care
  • patients who are finished with treatment and those who have recurred

What is an AYA Oncology Program?

The AYA oncology population faces many unique challenges. ChristianaCare is here to help guide and provide appropriate resources to our Adolescents and Young Adults cancer patients between the ages of 13-39.

What does the program offer?
  • Emotional and Mental Support. We support patients from any point in their cancer journey, with programs such as peer to peer, group programs and individual psychological counseling.
  • Fertility and Sexual Health. Some cancer treatments can impact future fertility and sexual health for both men and woman. We offer guidance to fertility specialists, preservation banking, IVF/transplantation, guidance for financial assistance to help with cost, and sexual health education during treatment.
  • Therapies. Cancer treatment often goes beyond medicine. We help patients with additional care such as physical therapy and nutritional counseling.
  • Finances. ChristianaCare understands that cancer treatments can put a strain on finances. We help with these concerns, including jobs, housing, and transportation.
  • Education. Returning to school after taking a break for cancer treatment can be tough. We get patients back on the path to success. We assist with scholarships, homework scheduling help, tutoring, and other needed resources to keep you on track.
  • Clinical Trials. We help patients who wish to participate in research studies get screened for clinical trials and other research that may be available.
  • Survivorship. After treatment ends, we guide teens and young adults through long-term follow-up care for a happy and healthy life.
