Celebrating a Second Chance at Life
In recognition of Donate Life Month, the ChristianaCare Kidney Transplant Program and Gift of Life Donor Program hosted a flag raising ceremony on April 14 honoring the generous people who provide hope and save lives through organ and tissue donation.

In 2025, Christiana Hospital facilitated 60 organ donations, resulting in 150 transplanted organs. In addition, there were 122 life-enhancing tissue donors in 2025, improving the lives of countless patients.

A generous $25,000 gift from the Gift of Life Donor Program and the Transplant Foundation will help support travel and hotel stays for families and patients who are transplant recipients, patients waiting for a kidney transplant, their family members or our generous living donors.

At the flag raising event, ChristianaCare caregivers and members of the Gift of Life team joined transplant recipient Onyi Kenine (in green dress) who received a donor liver as a child. Nationally, more than 100,000 people are waiting for organ transplants and a second chance at life, and every eight minutes another person is added to the national transplant waiting list, according to Donate Life America. Anyone who is 18 years of age or older may legally state his or her desire to be an organ, tissue or body donor.

The Gift of Life Donor Program is ChristianaCare’s partner in supporting organ and tissue donations and distribution in our community.
